Water supply to flat: mains or storage tank

by gt1213 » Tue Jan 11, 2022 10:36 am

I've discovered that the cold water supply to the bathroom in my tenement flat is from a storage tank in the loft. I understand that my kitchen taps will/should be supplied from the mains. However, for peace of mind, can anyone tell me how I can double-check that my kitchen is piped to the mains water supply? The cold water pressure is powerful from the kitchen tap but weak in the bathroom - I assume that might be one indication. If anyone can confirm how I can be certain of this, I'd appreciate it. (Apologies for my ignorance.)

Hi gt1313,
Somewhere in you flat there should be a stopcock to turn off the mains water. Find this and turn it off - if water no longer comes out of you kitchen tap you can be pretty sure it’s mains fed.
