What I think might be damp on plasterwet Chimney Breast

by SneakyTurtle » Sun Apr 12, 2020 1:51 pm

Hello,

A little over a year ago I bought my first home. We decided to decorate the living room and after a few weeks noticed that some of the paint was flaking off and peeling. After searching the internet I found that it could potentially be a damp problem. Therefore, I have now removed all the paint and taken it back to the bare plaster. When wiping it down though to remove any dust I have noticed a clear patch that still seems wet compared to the rest. It is not at the bottom near the floor boards but about a quarter of the way up the wall. I will include images and any help or advice would be appreciated.

Hi sneakyturtle,
This looks like an old chimney breast, if it is then possibly rain is coming down the chimney and hitting a structure defect at the level where the stain is.
Regards S.
