I have trees at an allotment site which need cutting down. The trees are trimmed annually to about 2m but cannot be completely removed as other hedging is present which must not be damaged. I have been told that a Japanese pull saw is what I need so the question is which to buy and does it have to be Japanese? I don't particularly want cheap Chinese which will not last BUT, if there is a good Chinese type then I will consider. There are several on ebay but I don't want to spend too much, preferably less that £10. Please offer your suggestions.
You need a pruning saw. These tend to be pull saws, which do the cutting on the pull stroke, as opposed to most other types of saw which do the cutting on the push stroke, as you push the blade away from you.
Pruning saws tend to be pull saws as you cannot often position the limb you are cutting to get a good strong cutting stroke. In this case it is useful to be able to cut on the pull stoke instead.
There's a good range of pruning saws to suit most budgets here:
