My husband and I are looking into converting our cellar room to a living space and possibly a bedroom. Now, this cellar is different from most cellars as it's on the same level as our kitchen, which has access to the garden though a back door. My question is whether or not we'd need to have a window built into the cellar for legal purposes or whether it would be sufficient for the fire access to be through the kitchen door? It's an important question as we have planning permission to build a drive, but we wouldn't want to build a drive and then have to build a window that would require breaking up a portion of the drive.
