Wire Mesh in First Concrete Slab and are They Needed or Waste of Time and Money?

Hey all,

Little background...
*8x7m room
*Slope site
*Will be a log cabin structure
*Foundation walls up, hardcore fill in and compacted
*Layers: Hardcore 10cm to 100cm, 10cm Concrete slab, 20cm Insulation, 10cm screed with underfloor heating

I am now planning the first 10cm slab pour on top of the hardcore, I am trying to work out if I should add wire mesh to this slab and if so what size?

From my research, it is suggested this is only to stop minor cracks and on well-compacted ground will not give any value. As this is the ground slab that will never be seen I am now worried about the odd crack, is the hardcore well compacted - I think so but guess there could be settlement.

Interested to hear what is common practice and the size of mesh used, if any?
