Wiring a 2 gang one way switch

Post by KDT » Sun Dec 21, 2008 6:36 pm

Hi, I wonder if you could help me.
I am trying to replace dimmer switch in my living room with a normal switch.
The room has 2 ceiling lights & 2 wall lights
The switch has 4 cables each with 3 wires: red, black & green/yellow
The earth wires are all connected to the socket box.
The black/neutral wires are all together in a connector block.
I am not sure what to do with the red wires.

In the one swith box I currently have 1 red one going in to the Common & 1 going into L1 - this works the wall lights.

In the other switch box I have another red wire going into the common & 1 going onto L1 - this does not work any lights.

I have tried swapping the wires around & at one point had the ceiling lights working, but not the wall lights.

Please can you tell me where I am going wrong?

The dimmer switch had a red wire going from the Common of box 1 to the common of box 2. Is this just required for a dimmer switch, or do I need to do this with the replacement switch?

Many thanks

This link wire is probably needed, fit one and see, it can't do any harm,
