Welcome to our fitting a door security chain video and the first thing that we're going to do is to make sure that we've got enough room on our frame to fit the chain itself
0:12
Take a look at the page on our website about the dimensions of your security chain
0:19
Put the chain bracket on the frame and mark the holes. You'll see that this chain has been fitted before
0:29
before but we're refitting it because the screws simply weren't long enough
0:34
So mark the position of the holes on the frame, keep them opposite the mid-rail towards
0:41
the top of the mid-rail where the mid-rail isn't broken by the letterbox
0:46
So having marked the holes, then drill in pilot holes for the screws for the door chain and
0:56
then obviously screw the chain in place. It's best to use a hand screwdriver for these particular screws
1:13
An electric screwdriver does tend to mark the wall as you screw in
1:22
Fit the end of the chain in the little slot provided to keep it out of the way and then offer up the keep, the chain keep, the chain keep
1:29
and slide that backwards and forwards along the midrail until you can see the position that you can open the door to avoid people being able to get their hand behind it and remove the chain from its keep
1:45
Watch the video and see how we demonstrate this. Thank you We identified now the position that we like to keep to be in
2:07
Close the door and mark one of the screw holes. Make a pilot hole for the screw and then fix the keep in position with just the keep in position with just
2:21
the one screw for now. Make sure that screw is very tight and then we're able to get a boat level or a torpedo level and level
2:51
that keep up with the chain bracket on the frame and once we're sure that we've got it level
3:00
then we can fix the rest of the screws. Make the pilot holes first and fix the screws
3:16
Then we can fit the chain and open the door to make the
3:21
sure that we have put the keep in exactly the right place. There we go. You can see that
3:27
that now opens enough to be able to pass identity cards through or whatever, but as you
3:34
can see, the burglar can't lift the chain out of the keep. If you like more of our videos
