Welcome to our video on fitting a curtain pole
0:09
These are the tools you'll need. A combination drill is absolutely ideal for this job but there are some great twin packs
0:15
out there at the moment with combination drills and drill drivers. That's a good thing to have
0:20
A hand screwdriver is good, a four foot spirit level, a strong tape and you'll need a couple
0:26
of inch length of insulation tape. show you why in a moment obviously the screws and the wallplots are required for putting
0:34
the pole up. Not all window heads and indeed ceilings are level
0:41
So measure the distance between the ceiling and the window head to see if it's even
0:46
Put your curtain pole up as level as you can and stand back and have a look
0:51
It's important that it looks right. If it looks right it is right, find the center of your window head and mark it
0:58
and then measure down to see whether you have the same depth between the ceiling and the head
1:03
And this all assists in getting it level or looking level Mark the centre of your curtain pole and instead of a pencil or something just wrap a little bit of tape round it
1:15
and align that with the centre mark that you've put on the window head already
1:22
That will give you an idea of the overhang required on your window head
1:27
so that your curtains don't close inside the window reveals. Mark a suitable height up from the window head for your curtain pole, allowing for the top of your curtains to stick above the pole
1:42
Mark the line for the brackets, follow the level all the way through that you've just marked
1:49
so that you know at which height to put your brackets at either end and in the middle
1:56
Again, this might not be 100% level, it just needs to look right with the ceiling
2:03
Put your brackets on your line. We always mark our line at the bottom of the brackets and mark the screw holes
2:12
Mark all of the screw holes so you can work out exactly where the center is Use your combination drill with a depth gauge Check the depth gauge against the length of the screw
2:25
And then drill your holes above your window. If you have trouble drilling into the little, please see our video and page on drilling
2:37
into lintels. Put your wall plugs into the holes that you've drilled
2:42
and place your brackets over those holes. Line them up carefully. It's very important that you drill the holes in the center of the screw holes
2:56
That way you can be sure that your level is right and then we're using a drill driver to fix those screws firmly
3:04
Put the rings on your curtain pole, keeping two spare and divide them in half, put half of the rings either side of the centre bracket, place
3:17
it in the bracket and then gently pull off the insulation tape so that you know that everything
3:22
is central Tighten up on your pole using the hand screwdriver and then unscrew the holding screw from the finial
3:34
place your final rings on either end of your curtain pole and put your finial in place
3:43
tighten that up and there we have the completed finial with the ring these are only lightweight rings for a lightweight
3:53
this is actually for a little blind that's going to hang down we'll show you
3:59
different types of poles in a moment and there we have the completed pole with the
4:04
set number of rings either side of the centre and one at either end to stop the
4:10
curtain pulling across you can use different types of curtains for different
4:15
types of poles and you can see from the images here some suggestions from the
