4inch blockwork wall

by dan83 » Mon Apr 11, 2011 1:13 am

I am planning to build a 4 inch blockwork wall aprox 1.5high x 7m long in the back garden. I am wondering if and were if needed i would need to put a movement joint and also supports in the wall. the wall is not load bearing

Thanks

you need pillars at each end of the wall and where the expansion joint is in the middle of the wall at 3.5metres,So 4 pillars in total

you could get away with three piers.
place the movement joint next to the central pier and use debonded wall ties at 225mm vertical centres
