Advice Wanted on Removing Hipped Roof, Roof Support

by kraigtoft » Mon May 25, 2015 1:22 pm

hi all

i live in a end terraced house with a hipped roof, i want to board the floor out and gain storage space, the problem im facing is that there is a beam that runs between the 2 sides of the roof at knee height, its not supporting the hipped part of the roof just the sides, is there anyway of removing this beam and put supports elsewhere to gain floor space.

Thanks in advance

Hi kraigtoft,
The beam you refer to is stabilizing the roof structure. You may be able to fit vertical struts where the ends of the beam are now but they will need to bear on a floor plate over a number of joists.
Suggest you get specialist advice before doing anything.
