Alcove Shelving Project

Dear All,

I am about the follow the shelving project for my alcove shelves, however, it is unclear to me whether the wood at the front of the shelve covers the top and bottom pieces of wood or sits between them (so you make good the front of the shelf).

Could someone clarify this for me please?
