Briston shower valve - how to remove end cap on mixer?

Can anyone advise me on how the end cap on this mixer is removed please? Does it screw off? Or do you pop it off with a screwdriver or knife? The valve has become very stiff and was probably not lubricated when the cowboy fitted it!

Valves vary depending on make and model, the caps normally do just pop off with the use of a screwdriver or similar, then there'd normally be a retaining nut or screw underneath. Have you tried Googling the make and model to see if you can find the installation/servicing instructions?
