ceramic tiles on to ashphelt floor

hi, can anyone help im going to tile my kitchen floor which is ashphelt. i want to lay ceramic tiles can i just use the normal tile floor adhesive or do i have to prepare the floor in any certain way first.i dont want the tiles to come up sometime in the future..hope someone can help thanks

If the surface you are laying on is absolutely sound, with no loose material or flaking surface etc then laying tiles on it should not be a problem. Prepare the surface by cleaning thoroughly by scrubbing with warm water and detergent then, when dry, coat with 2 undiluted coats of PVA adhesive (see our project on PVA). Use powdered tile adhesive ands add a mug of PVA to the mix when you are ready to lay. See our project on laying floor tiles to get them down.
