How long is a piece of string ?

What is wrong with your cistern ?
There's many different types - make, model or a link to the manufacturer or stockist may help.

Normally by air pressure caused by pressing button or cable connected direct to button, access back of button and check that pipe/cable still connected. if not re connect, if so and is pipe, blow down pipe to check for kinks or breaks, replace where necessary.
