Cost of boiler & cylinder replacement

by abaminog » Mon Mar 29, 2010 11:17 pm

Hello!

I have decided to replace my old gas boiler (Suprima) and hot water cylinder (Boiler Mate II). As my house is quite large, I have picked Valliant Ecotec 630 boiler and Vaillant uniSTOR 260 cylinder. I got an estimate from the guy I normally use to have my central heating inspected and fixed. For the removal of the old boiler & cylinder and putting the new ones in, plus flushing the system a new wiring loom he is asking £3,800 + VAT. This does not include the price of the new boiler & cylinder as I am getting those from elsewhere. He is saying it's a big 3-day job and that's how much it costs.

I am not happy with the price as it looks very steep, but on the other hand I have no other point of reference (of course, I can get an alterantive quote from other local specialists). I am wondering if someone can give me a guidance whether this estimate looks reasonable/high/ridiculous etc.

Thanks!

It does look ridiculous for labour only - £1200+ per day ???

I would get a few more quotes, try asking round for recommendations.
