Creating a Driveway

by Cafuk » Wed Mar 28, 2007 1:31 pm

Hi

For some time now I have wanted to turn my front garden into a freestanding for a car, parking has always been a nightmare along my road.
I have a limited budget so would like to do the work myself but find the prospect very daunting.
My current front garden is grassed. It slopes down towards the house from the road (a gradual slope) and the end of the garden nearest the road is lower than the path. So the ground is going to have to be raised to start with.
My first question would be do I need to raise the lot so I have a flat free standing or can I just raise it near the path to allow ease of driving on/off and have a sloped free standing ?
Id like to have a gravelled top, not concreted.
What will I have to do to the current ground to prepare it for its new role ?
I may be able to get some soil as a friend currently needs shot of a load. But will putting down more soil to raise the level just make it too soft?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Caf
