    How to re-roof a shed

    Postby katieb » Sun Apr 06, 2008 3:23 pm

I've just removed a massive old rose which has been growing over my 6X4 shed...and i see if i gone through the roof in one place. I'm thinking i need to re-roof the shed o make it water-tight. Is this a big job? Any ideas how i should start to go about re-roofing it? what materials do i need etc? I'm generally good at DIY (have done everything else in the house myself so far...but have no idea about sheds!). Any advise appreciated.

    KATIE,

UNLESS THE ROOF IS ROTTING YOU DONT HAVE TO REMOVE EXISTING TIMBERS.

CHECK OUT THE WAY THE EXISTING ROOF IS MADE SO THAT YOU CAN COPY TO NEW ROOF COVERING.

OVERLAY EXISTING ROOF WITH NEW ROOF BOARDS SECURED TO RAFTERS/PURLINS WITH NAILS OR SCREWS AND APPLY NEW ROOF FELT SHEETS STARTING AT EVES AND OVERLAPPING UP TO RIDGE SECURED WITH CLOUT NAILS.

    ALDA.

Many thanks Alda. I was hoping that i could just lay another 'roof' over the old one....and you have confirmed that for me. I'll give this a go - Kate
