Is it possible to DIY Tarmac a path

does anyone know if it is possible to buy materials and tarmac my own private path down the side of the house?

I've been told i can get tarmac in bags from diy stores and you just lay it out, break it up, rake it level and then go over it with a garden roller full with hot water.

Is this feasible?
