Kitchen Spot Lights Blowing When Switching off

by LLHowells » Wed Jul 12, 2017 3:38 pm

I had a 2 arm 4 LED light fitted in my kitchen (was originally a single pendant light) which switched on fine but blew the downstairs lights when it was switched off, It has been reset and new on/off switch fitted, light comes on but short circuits every time it is switched off. Any ideas plz?

I would say who ever changed the light wired it wrong.

You have answered your own question when you said "but short circuits every time it is switched off"

When the light is switched off the switch does indeed make a short circuit. (A loud bang too)
Are all the reds connected together and are all the blacks connected together?

Yes - very loud bang which knocks out all the downstairs lights. Have fixed it now - was a black cable wired up incorrectly so all working fine.

Obviously the person/installer in both situations does not understanding lighting circuits.
