Lighting problem

by misterg » Wed Jul 04, 2007 2:35 pm

Hi

I took off a light swtich from the wall to decorate and put it back again. The lights in that room work fine, however some of the lights on the same floor no longer work.

The wiring is very old.

There were three black rubber wires covered in red weave. Only two wires were connectd to the switch. One wire appeared to be just floating in the knockout box.

I had labelled the wires as top and bottom and replaced them like that. (I'm assuming the switch was mounted the right way up!).

Any ideas?

I am getting the whole lot replaced in a couple weeks by a qualified electrician, so just need to get the lights working again for now.

Cheers

HI misterg, take the 'spare' wire, mark it! put it with one of the others, if you have to have that light on to get the others to work change it to the other side of sw, regards

Thanks again Sparx

It worked first time. The wire must have broken off when I removed the switch.

Cheers
