Lighting Wiring Problem

Post by rararaf » Wed Jun 06, 2007 5:52 pm

I want to replace an existing ceiling light but my existing wiring does not appear to have an earth wire. My new lights state that they must be earthed. How do I overcome this ?

hi

in this instance its rewire time, it would be unsafe to connect up new light fittings without an earth, which also makes me think what is the current earthing arrangements within your property are the gas and water pipes bonded and is the main cu earth the correct size and is it a rewireable board?
Questions that need to be addressed, unfortunately by adding items on to an electrical system when it is not in the best state can cause problems

Hi, Thanks for the information. I thought this may be the case but needed to ask the question.
