MCB Layout

by theredjerseys » Sat Oct 11, 2008 6:42 am

I had a new consumer unit fitted before the 1st July so only needed the 16th Edition. This was done by a qualified electrician. However when a new meter was installed the guy who came said that the MCB's were in the wrong order and should be High amperes to Low amperes.I've tried to find out what this means. The original spark doesn't know either

Any ideas

In the older distribution boards it was normal to put the high current MCB close to main incomer and progress to smallest furthest away from main incomer but in a consumer unit where the supply may be fed from either end and the copper bus bars and much thicker than the older units this does no longer matter although most electricians would follow the old method where possible.
