Moving chimney lintel higher to accomidate stove

by dan79 » Fri Aug 22, 2008 11:47 am

Hi All, I really need some advice. I would like to put a new lintel into the chimney breast wall which is higher then the present one. And then under the new lintel I would like to put in a new oak beam...Kind of inglenook look.

I know I need to support the chimney stack whilst removing the Lintel I just wondered if there are Lintels for percific jobs? i.e. a lintel that will not crack under heat?

Can anyone help?

The room height is about 2.4 meters high this also includes the room above the dinning room and the loft and then I have about 1.5 meters of stack on the roof. The width of the chimney is about 1300mm. If this helps?
