Neighbour noise

I live in an old mid terraced property in Portsmouth, built approx. 1900. The problem is I can hear my neighbours talking on both sides, even at normal conversation. I have looked into soundproofing including the company you reccomend but dont feel this is going to help much. Is such poor sound proofing as this normal as I have lived in properties as old as this before and they have been much quieter. Can you advise as the only solution I can think of is to move house at the obvious cost.
