Noisy Toilet When Flushing - Is This the Inlet Valve?

Post by ninjaman » Mon Jun 15, 2015 2:13 pm

hello

I have a noisy toilet

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrkhIKvF-IA

it has been like this for a few months. we flush the chain and that noise is made. not all the time though. sometimes when we turn on the tap it goes away, sometimes it doesn't.
I don't know what type of valve/flush system it has?
or how to fix it. I have read about noise in the plumbing and some posts say inlet valve replacement. I am not too sure what to do here and I don't want to pay for a plumber as that could be expensive.
any help would be great

thanks

The noise is most likely caused by an ageing rubber washer in the float valve. As the washer ages, it becomes hard and brittle making it unable to absorb vibration caused when the water flows in to the cistern.

Replacing the 50p washer will cure the noise.
