over heating imersion timer switch.

have imersion tank on timer switch.
switch started to mailfunction.
on inspection i found that both live terminals connecting blocks (supply in and out) had melted.
could anyone supply a reason for this and how to avoid it happening again.

Probably simply screws not tight enough which creates resistance and thus heat at the terminal

Or the switch not rated high enough to match the heater load
