PAINTING EXTERNAL WALLS

hi docs,
picking up an unfinished job. paint I have is matt but looking for a gloss finish to go with outside tilies (pub). Advised to use varnish on top of matt. Is this okay will it affect the breathability of the wall - not able to get same colour in a masonry gloss. please advice on best way forward
