Powdery grout - is this right?

    Postby unusualcurl » Sat Feb 27, 2010 7:37 pm

I've just had my bathroom tiled and the grout seems to be quite powdery when I run my finger along it. Is this alright?

The grouts used were Mapei ultracolour black and white and were mixed to a creamy consistency. The black seems to be much worse than the white ... or maybe it shows up more! Do I need to apply something over it? I'm concerned about using my shower before I know if it's ok.

    unusualcurl,
No it definitely should not be powdery, how old was the grout powder look at the packet and see if it has a SB or UB date on it.

give it a good wash with a wet sponge and dry it off with kitchen towel. repeat. this will remove any residue.

if still powdery after this then there is a problem. you may wish to contact the manufacturer directly. i've had tremendous problems with mapei grout in the past on more than one occasion. i boycott it now.
