Power Shower and water pump problems

We have a Triton power shower which uses cold water from a tank in the loft, and hot water from a NewTeam Varispeed SI pump in the airing cupboard next to the hot water tank. Its been working fine for a year or so.

About six months ago, the shower started playing up and now won't work unless its on full flow. Below that the motor spins, but won't pump any water. Not too much of a problem, but we're using a lot of water.

A few days ago the shower started leaking. When we realised, we turned off the water, drained the tank, and fixed the leak. Turning it all back on, the water pump won't pump. The motor howls, but no water.

Before we just replace both the shower and the pump with identical ones, does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a fundamental problem with our set up?

    Thanks,
    Sian and Simon.

Fundamentally both hot and cold should be pumped. Is that the case in your setup?

If you have zero water after draining the system to fix the leak I'd be looking for an airlock somewhere.

    Cheers

Only the hot water is pumped, as it has to go from the tank up through the loft, and down into the bathroom. The pressure from the cold tank is ok.

Although it may work in this configuration the supplies are unbalanced and both SHOULD be pumped but thats a side issue to the main point of this thread.

I still think you probably have an airlock.
