problem with lights

Post by jonesc90 » Tue May 06, 2008 9:16 am

Hi

I have 2 wall lights each with a black and a white wire.

The walls have a black, red and a bare wire.

I am using a dimmer.

Which wire do I connect the white to and which wire do I connect the black to?

Thanks

Catherine

I'm guessing these lights were not bought in the UK?

If they originate from the US or Japan then Black is live and will wire to your red wire in the wall.

White is neutral and will wire to your black wire in the wall.

The bear wire in the wall is earth and should be sleeved with green and yellow sleeving. This should either be connected to the earth connection on the light fitting or be tucked away safely.

Please remember that this is guess work only therefore I cannot guarantee any results from the above advice. Please be safe.

Also bear in mind that a US fitting will have been made to run on 110volts not the UK 230v.
