putting up a bedroom light no ceiling rose

by lea » Thu Jun 25, 2009 2:44 pm

HELP :!: Trying to put up a new light up without a ceiling rose.
coming out the ceiling i have :
4 red wires -1 taped with black tape
2 black wires - no tape
1 green & yellow
so...... i blocked off the 3 red without tape and the one with tape i presumed was live and put it in the new light opposite the brown . The 2 blacks i put together in the neutral and connected the green . With fingers crossed i turned on the lights  Not only did they not work but also the lights in the next bedroom STOPPED working oops
please help, running out of candles . lea
Hope this all makes sense to someone

It would help if you could also list the wire colours at the relevant switch.

that sounds rather unconventional!!
your thinking makes sense, but
I would say that red with black tape is probably a neutral, never seen it done like that before myself though! bit naughty if it is
