    Rattling manhole cover

    Postby BM68H » Fri Jun 05, 2009 10:39 am

Here's my problem: a manhole in the street is a bit loose and rattles every time a car goes over it. Not a very busy street, but I find it annoying and distracting. Called the Council several times, but they can't / won't / don't fix it.

So I'm wondering if there's some simple DIY solution - perhaps some kind of resin or adhesive I can just pour into the gaps around the cover which sets and holds it in place, stopping the ratling sound? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sealing as you say is not a good idea, as the drains should be routinely cleaned and access will be needed to remove blockages.

You could lift the cover and check for anything stopping the grate sitting flat, like cement or stones and remove them - if it looks clear I would get some small slithers of wood, tap them around the sides with a hammer and snap off the excess wood this'll stiop the cover moving.
