Re-wiring ceiling rose

by ---pete--- » Sun Jan 25, 2009 6:32 pm

Hi

I'm trying to change a friends ceiling light and have made the fatal mistake of not noting down the previous wiring to the rose. I have two twin and earth cables which I assume connect to the RED Loop and Black Neutral terminals as normal. The problem is I have a 3 core and earth as the third cable where I would normally expect another twin and earth switch cable. The colours are Red, Blue and Yellow, plus the earth and I cannot figure out which is which. I think the reason for the odd 3 core cable is the fact there is also an extractor fan in the room. The Red wire is already connected to the other Red wires via a connection block, as are all the earths. Where should the remaining Blue and Yellow wires go.

Help would be greatly appreciated
Pete

See thge projects section. There are 3 or 4 projects, with diagrams, on replacing a ceiling light and rewiring a light fitting. www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects.htm
