removing ceramic floor tile adhesive

Post by roger at bon abri » Thu Nov 29, 2007 9:01 am

I have removed the ceramioc floor tiles from a kitchen floor to re-tile with slate. The cement type adhesive is proving very difficult to remove. Wetting does not help (apart from limiting dust) and the only solution seems to be to chip away with a hammer and cold chisel - at the present rate this will take about a week to do! I cannot level and tile on top as it has to but to other tiled areas. Any ideas?

I would be patient and bite the bullet. Remove the old adhesive or smooth it out as well as possible. You'll be happy you spent the extra time.
