Replacement ceiling fan

by lewy407 » Wed Jul 11, 2007 11:51 am

Hi
Have just purchased a replacement ceiling fan and need some advice about the cable connection.
I have a 2 core & earth and a 3 core & earth cable coming thought the ceiling. The fan light has a brown & red cable together (live), a blue (neutral) and 2 earths. Just need to know of the 2 red, 1 black amd 1 blue coming from the ceiling which one goes where (the yellow is not used any more as this went to a separate pull switch no longer in use).
The old fan was connected as below.
2 red into Brown
Blue into Orange
Black into Blue
Earth into earth
Any guidance appreciated.

hi, seems likely you have a twin/e Red-live in Blk N in plus 3core/e sw wires, if as you say yel. not used then I believe you need to connect;
2 red together in spare block ( this then gives L at sw),
Blk to blu of fan/light, giving it a N.
Blu (from 3c.) sw. line to brn&red of fan/light
regards
