Roof Ladders

Morning Folks

Looking for some advice with respect to roof (ridge hook type) ladders. I have a large Spanish slate roof of some 3 years age now. Few tiles cracking, slipping, need replacing plus the valleys need leaves removing every autumn. I plan to save the cash on a professional roofer because the leaves in particular are obviously recurring and the cost will quickly spiral out of control....so its down to me.

Bought ridge hooks for my regular ladder which is a good one ie 3 extension so at least 9 metres when fully extended because the roof I need to hook over is more than 5 metres hence one ladder is not enough. The question is (& I accept it may be a stupid one) - is a regular extendable ie two piece ladder acceptable on a roof without cracking the slates given when its extended, one of the extensions clearly wont lie flat? Is the solution to place some kind of soft packer underneath the bit thats about 4 inch proud of the roof to pack it? I want to avoid buying a specialist ladder if I can avoid it. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Letsrock,
You will need to be able to soundly lock the two parts of the two section ladder together and use a number of folded blankets up the roof.
end
