Smell in Utility Room in House Especially After it Rains

by jillybee83 » Sun Oct 19, 2014 12:15 am

HI.
Looking for a.bit of advice. We live in a 4 bed detached house. For past 6 months we have noticed a smell in the house predominantly in the utility room, kitchen and downstairs hall. This smell comes and goes bit seems to reappear after hwavy rainfall. My husband has checked all the drains in house, no blockages, no smell from drains. The smell appears to be in the areas where there are pipes underneath the floor. By chance a company was in the area and lifted up the outside drain cover a few months ago.and got us to flush the toilets and again no blockage. THe smell is really getting on my nerves and it's not the washing machine or dishwasher as we have checked connections etc and all are fine. I don't know that to do next?

Hi jillybee83

Question - Is there a gas supply to your house ? If so, for the sake of safety please get it tested, It's a free service, and please don't let the rain issue mislead you to thinking that it can only be the drains.
I'm just thinking safety first here. unexplained smells must be investigated.
