splitting an existing attic in a victorian terrace

by diyweekend » Fri Feb 22, 2008 4:29 pm

Just a question regarding building regs on splitting my attic down into two rooms with a small landing area.

do i need building regs.the stairs were in when the house was built so proper access is there to access the attic, the room which is 20foot by 14 foot. has floor joist and boards the same throughout the house.the room has been fully underdrawn by previous owner and fully insulated

i was thinking of splitting with partition wall 3 by 2 framing with plasterboard. doors into each room from the landing area.

the roof height in the room is 6foot 4. the roof slowly slops at only 36inches from each width end of the room down to 4 foot or there abouts

each room would have its own small velux window

Hi
You'll need building controls on velux window as it will involve cutting into the roof and could alter it's structure.
Room dividing probally comes under change of use.
Ring the local building controls usually very happful and informative
