upvc door lock problem

by doorhandle » Tue Sep 07, 2010 7:45 pm

Hi, upvc door lock is faulty, key was stuck in lock, couldnt lock the door ,insurance engineer came out and drilled 2 clamps to make sure the door was closed. Rang AA insurance today, they said that the door was securely closed now and it is my problem to get it repaired. After fiddling with the key, whilst the door was open,I managed to simulate locking the door, but the latch to open the door just keeps jamming ,. The speg also jams...but the lock latch works ok. Should I get a locksmith or someone who repairs door mechanisms? I live in Calderdale

You'll find most reputable locksmiths are perfectly au fait with UPVC door locking mechanisms.

Locksmiths will cost you a lot of money, but will be able to do it.
Before you phone anyone, look on youtube for how to replace the locking mechanism - it's really easy and it will save you about £150 - £200.

Hi

You can usually just replace the actual gearbox. It detaches from the locking strip. If you do a google search for upvc door gearbox you will the see the part I am reffering to

Good luck
