What's the difference on Brown & Grey 110 waste pipe.

    Postby collectors » Sun Feb 07, 2010 11:21 am

Is there a difference between the brown 110mm underground waste pipe & the grey above ground pipe. The only reason i ask, is all the new pipe we will be fitting is going into 2 bathrooms & a kitchen is all behind box work with back to wall loo's, so we wont see it. Or is it something more than just colour, as the brown is a lot cheaper.

    Thanks

    Chris.

    collectors,
Grey pipe is UV stabilised so can be used where it is exposed to daylight.
Brown is intended for undergound use.

yes there is a difference in that the brown pipe is not uv safe. I mean to say it will degrade in sun light and only made to be covered in the ground! the uv safe plastic is more expencive

    Thanks for getting back.
I thought it might be something like that. But can it still be used for internal use when its just being boxed in. I can make the last few feet out the roof in grey if needed.

    collectors,
Yes as long there is no light getting to it you should be OK.
Always intrigues me that many builders merchants store the brown pipe outside in the sun!

My brother use to work at the plumb centre & a lot of theirs was outside. (Makes you wonder)

    Cheers.
