3 phase tools

Post by fisha » Sun Aug 09, 2009 11:17 am

can anyone tell is there a way of using 3 phase tools on a single phase installation, i know you could maybe link out the phases across a single phase but i know this is not advisable is there any safe method of achieving this is it expensive , also i presume it depends on wat type of tools are being used wat loads they have and weather they contain motors, any advice would be great thnaks guys

For three phase you need a three phase supply as the voltage values are different.

I did find a thing recently about doing this on an american site, but don't have the link. you may have to spend a bit of time googling to find it. depending on the type of tools it can be technically possible, but not easy and not cheap.

you could buy a 'phase convertor' sold for the purpose but again are quite expensive, rated for highest tool load needed, sold on web or through 'INDUSTRIAL EXCHANGE & MART'.
most are electronic, some are a rotary convertor ie a motor 1Ph driving a 3Ph generator,
