Bang in cold water pipe

When i turn the cold water lever tap off quickly there is a loud bang in the pipe.Is there a cure for this?

turn it off slowly

or reduce the pressure at the main stopcock, otherwise you will need to trace the pipes and put clips every meter or so to stop them moving
