Best resources for a plumber wanting to start going it alone

Postby Daveedrd » Thu Jun 23, 2022 9:48 am

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping to within the next financial year get a small local handyman business going with my long time friends and co workers. I'd be dealing with the plumbing side of it. We've all arranged to start taking local night courses at college for business and finances and I spend a lot of time looking into already started sole trader business for inspiration. Does anyone have any useful resources such as articles or blogs I could add to my reading list? I want to be as prepared as possible for when we make the jump!

One great book I have read which changed how I approach finances for my business is 'Profit First'.

Well worth a read!

Start learning to use spreadsheets for all your accounts & vat if needed. I have used them for 30 years plus & would suggest the free google Sheets for all your accounting & if you start with VAT just link you final figures on a VAT return to a simple bit of software called Anna. There is lots of help on places like Face book to help you.
