boxing in pipes

hi, we are habving the bathroom re done. the tiler has suggested boxing in the waste pipes. then tiling over the box.

what type of material would you recommend for this.

6mm or 12mm plywood is good or 9.5mm plasterboard will do fine. Just cut it and glue it in position.
