Brazing rebars to build small fruit cage

Postby charlie101 » Fri May 14, 2021 12:07 am

I would like to connect a number of lengths of small diameter rebars together to create a fruit cage.
I can solder copper pipe but have no welding or brazing experience. I don't want to get involved with Oxygen.
I have read that Mapp can be used for 'light' brazing.
Does this sound doable?
Will Mapp give enough heat?
Will I have enough contact area to give 'strong' secure joints?

Any advice gratefully received.

Hi charlie101,
You will probably do better hiring a small arc welder and buying a few rods.

Hi,
You can mig-weld rebar very easily, even with a cheap welder. I learned how to mig-weld using YouTube videos, and I can gas weld pretty well now. I get a mix of welding gas from HobbyWeld, and have a Mighty Mig 150. Very cheap set-up. I suggest you get something similar.
