Can you fix fence panels to the face of the post?

I would like to erect a double slatted fence but would prefer the look of the panels butting against each other without being 'interrupted' with fence posts. Is there any issues with this? Would I just screw the panels straight onto the posts? I know I could buy individual battens but it seems to work out more expensive, and would only be single slatted.

Hi Renfrew999
No reason why not, you could fit the panels to either side of your posts.
