Central Heating bangs loud then bolier goes out ?

Post by Birksy » Mon Feb 23, 2009 12:37 pm

My central heating system will run fine for about 45 mins, heating all the radiators fine. It then bangs very loud and the pump makes a noise and then boiler goes off, including the pilot light. I restart the bolier and it cuts in ok again but then bangs and stops again within abiut 15 minutes.
Is this due to the pump overheating ?. Is it a simple case of replacing the pump or is there poosibly another solution ?.

Could also indicate low system water content, do you have tanks in the loft? If so check the little one has water in it.

I have had a number of heating engineers looking at it. The boiler is in the garage but the banging is in the airing cupboard, is that still th boiler overheating. I have had the part reaplace on the boiler that regulates the heat ?.
