Changing 2 way dimmer switch to 2 way ordinary light switch

Post by macstowe » Fri Dec 07, 2007 6:02 pm

I would like to use low energy bulbs in my lounge but couldn't because dimmer switches were installed. When trying to replace 2 gang 2 way ordinary 2 switch, all wires are red and I can't get the 2 switches to work at the same time. I can either get all wall light fittings to work or single light will work but not from both the on/off switch at both door entrances.
Please help.

Did you mark the cables before you removed them, so that you know which ones went to which terminals on the old switches?

Do you have a multimeter?

Don't want to depress you, but if the answer to both of those is "no" then you'll probably need to call an electrician.... :?

PS - did you know you can now get dimmable CFLs?

Yes I marked all the cables but the replacement switch was not the same as the dimmer switch hence my problem. The old witch was marked L1 L2 and C the replacemnet is marked 1 way 2 way 1 way 2 way and 2 x common.

1-way = L1
2-way = L2
Common = C
