Circuit breaker trips when switch is turned on

by SAK » Fri May 25, 2007 9:22 pm

Just moved in the house. In the bedroom there is a small switch board with 4 switches & cables tubes running from it. When you turn on one of the switches, the circuit breaker (replacement breaker in Wylex) trips. Tried to trace where the switches were connected & it appears that one of them goes to the fan light (a fancy cieling fan with light). 2 switches go to small florescent tube fitings which do not have any tubes. I couldn't trace where the fourth switch is connected. This system is on the lighting ring as the circuit breaker tripping turns off all lights. How do I trace the fault & rectify it?

There is a separate room light which is operated using a separate on other wall & works fine.

Hi,
As mcb is only for overload not earth faults & from discription cct. shouldn't be overloaded; you are looking for a short cct on wiring, does it trip with any sw. or only with one of them?
more info please & will answer asap
