composite or wood for out door canopy?

Postby shimself » Thu Mar 11, 2021 2:01 pm

We've got this "canopy", a number of joists/beams over an outdoor space, which mainly supports wisteria. see photos
It's appx 15yrs old now and the wood is in a poor state.
Dimensions 4.2m x 50mm x75mm

I'm thinking composite or even metal might be a better bet. Failing that are some woods better than others (given that they will be treated)?

As you can tell I'm a dummy. Thanks, Steve

Hi shimself
It is unlikely that you will be able to buy composite beams long enough, you could go for oak but will probably need something larger than the 75x50 beams you currently have.
